It's that time of year again when global issues take second
place in the British media, to make space for the great 'A'
level debate. Packed with case studies of 'Laura achieved nine A
grades and was still rejected from her first choice', you have
to wonder how long students can maintain the will to study. It's
not just the fact that companies and newspapers are debating
whether students are actually getting more stupid ('A' levels
are the new GCSEs apparently), students are debating ...

Global Development ' So Much More Needed
meldunn.com.au
The tragic events resulting from the recent Tsunami on Boxing
Day 2004 serve to again highlight the fragile nature of many of
the world's communities. In each of these locations the key
tasks of treating the sick and injured, ensuring clean water was
available, or made available, providing food, accommodation and
so on was critically important as a first step on the way to
rebuilding these communities.
What further serves to highlight the ...

'The examination combines the techniques of an observational
hierarchy and those of a normalising judgment. It is a
normalising gaze, a surveillance that makes it possible to
qualify, to classify and to punish. It establishes over
individuals a visibility through which one differentiates them
and judges them.' (Foucault 1975: 184)
Going to work is no longer as simple as doing a particular job
in a particular place. By taking part in the hierarchical system
of the office, the worker also takes ...

The latest census in Ukraine revealed an apocalyptic drop of 10%
in its population - from 52.5 million a decade ago to a mere
47.5 million last year. Demographers predict a precipitous
decline of one third in Russia's impoverished, inebriated,
disillusioned, and ageing citizenry. Births in many countries in
the rich, industrialized, West are below the replacement rate.
These bastions of conspicuous affluence are shriveling.
Scholars and decision-makers - once terrified by the ...

They inhabit self-imposed ghettoes, subject to derision and
worse, the perennial targets of far-right thugs and populist
politicians of all persuasions. They are mostly confined to
menial jobs. They are accused of spreading crime, terrorism and
disease, of being backward and violent, of refusing to fit in.
Their religion, atavistic and rigid, insists on ritual slaughter
and male circumcision. They rarely mingle socially or
inter-marry. Most of them - though born in European countries -
are not ...

My oldest boy asked me something the other day about all the
news regarding the high divorce rate. I told him there aren't
too many divorces, there's too many marriages. Most people get
married without really knowing who they are marrying or just how
big of a commitment they are making. Heck, most people get
married before they even know themselves very well. When the
reality of it all hits them, they are either stuck in a bad
marriage for life, or they get a divorce. Education is the
solution. ...

I have spent the past few years learning how sex is being sold
over the internet. I have had real life experiences with men of
all professional levels. I meant men of higher education. They
run major companies from all over the USA and the World. Men of
all walks of life. But what they all have one thing in common,
they are looking for on the internet for sex and bdsm sessions.
It has open the pandora box that socity doesn't want to know
about. For I have seen sex for sale at high prices that ...

I want to share with you information that the Russian marriage
agencies don't tell you on their web sites.
Many of the dating agencies tout, how young Russian women are so
family oriented and will make wonderful wives and family
partners. This causes many foreign men to dream about the
perfect family! A family that they have already built up in
their own imagination.
Every man who has seen the Russian dating agency ads and
believes in them completely, has built up in his mind, and has
created ...

Just after graduating from college, the first full-time job I
got was as an administrative assistant for a higher education
institution. Although I was not passionate about the work
itself, I gave it my best effort. It paid the bills during our
first four years of marriage while my husband was in medical
school.
Several support staff in the organization perpetually played the
victim role; they frequently held a "pity party" to air their
grievances about work ...

Five Actions To Cure Holiday Blues
Merry Christmas! Or not!!
For many the holiday season is an annual reminder that there is
no money, family, friends, or health, with which to enjoy this
happy season. The truth is that if it were possible, some would
not mind pushing the clock ahead to January 1, 2006.
We all know that Christmas is prime time for depression. People
who are short on money will often find a way to spend it. Not on
friends and family, but on anti-depression medication.
I will ...
